Martha Deeringer writes freelance articles and children's fiction from the back porch of her home on a central Texas cattle farm, a family affair where she lives with her husband, two children and their spouses, and four very active grandchildren. Martha spent many years sharing her love of history with thousands of sixth graders in Temple, Texas. Now, she writes articles for children's and adults' magazines, many of them historical in nature like Martha herself. She loves kids, horses, dogs, gardening, kayaking, the 150 year old prairie church next door, and Indian artifacts, which turn up occasionally in a creek bed on the farm. She has been known to embarrass her grandchildren by writing articles about them. On occasion, she has also brought nearly-frozen newborn calves into her laundry room to warm up.
